Physical Education is Cross-Curricular! Yeah! We read and write in PE!
As you know every student at Bellair receives 2 PE grades (Achievement and Citizenship).
The achievement grade (Academic Grade) is based on written assignments, citizenship score, and teacher observations. Students might read about the history, safey procedures and proper etiquette of the sport/activity we are currently participating in, and answer questions about what they've learned. Sometimes vocabulary is introduced through word searches and other worksheets. It's a great way to reinforce reading and writing across the curriculum while teaching the Physical Education standards. Students are held responsible for making-up missing written assignments. Weekly reminders will be given. If a student is missing a written assignment when the grading period is over a zero grade will be given for that assignment. Thus, affecting the overall achievement grade for PE. PE is CROSS-CURRICULAR! There will be no more than 5 written assignments per quarter, although there may be less.
The citizenship grade is based on the Six Pillars of Character, behvior, attitude and overall preparedness for PE. We expect all students to adhere to the 6 pillars of character.
1. Trustworthiness
2. Respect
3. Responsibility
4. Caring
5. Fairness
6. Citizenship
Each student is given 100 points at the beginning of each quarter. Essentially, it is up to the student to keep as many points as possible, by coming to PE with a great attitude and the willingness to try their best at every activity, while always displaying GREAT sportsmanship.
